suggest Home for the Holidays, Jodie Foster's excellent, underappreciated paean to the absurdity of the gathering and of our families. fabulous cast, with Geraldine Chaplin, Robert Downey Jr, Anne Bancroft and Charles Durning and Holly Hunter...even David Straithairn in a small role.

happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Ty!

My daughters also loved Chaplin's The Kid when they were little. As well as Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, if we're talking B&W classics.

I would give a 2nd shout out to Home for the Holidays. Just purchased the DVD before it's too difficult to find on streaming platforms. Another Thanksgiving tradition and favorite of ours is Barry Lyndon. Nothing to do with the holiday - just a great Kubrick masterpiece that goes well with a glass of champagne. If someone wants a period piece like Napoleon but wants to stay home, I think it would be an excellent choice. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Ty - you should still see one of the best films of 2023 (which has a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score) - Birth/Rebirth!

It killed at Sundance and in Europ this summer. 91 minutes and streaming on Amazon Prime and Shudder - it’ll get the family talking deep into the night.

Try it - I’ve been telling you about this film since March, brother.

Thank you for the Safety Last rec! Watched on Wednesday eve with audience ranging in age from 70 to 7: all totally into it, and of course the escalating hilarity of the final chapter!

I'm smart. I don't go home for Thanksgiving. I was in Las Vegas instead. (I go home for Christmas.) And my Mom has a strict "no politics" rule, which is good as my brother's a Trumper. Breaking the rule will result in Odie's Mom taking a swat at you. She hits a LOT harder now that we're adults than when we were kids. And somehow, she's gotten quicker in her old age. As for movies, you liked OPPENHEIMER, NAPOLEON and MAESTRO a full star more than I did (as revenge, I liked MASTER AND COMMANDER and 24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE a half-star more than you did). I was looking forward to your take on REX REED AS NAPOLEON (Joaquin looks EXACTLY like Rex in this movie, which is why I made my review sound like a bitchy Sexy Rexy Special on purpose). You were too kind to Scott's wretched hot mess. But I look forward even more to your take on the four hour version. I was also hoping to hear from you on WISH, but you wisely avoided it. The only plus of that film was that I got the words "a walking thirst trap" into the Boston Globe.
