I watched Apollo 10 1/2 on Sunday night, and it was so cleverly done! The premise was great, that NASA had made a spaceship that was too small and they recruited a normal kid to fly it on a top secret mission that no one ever knew about.
I grew up in the 60’s so appreciated the trip down memory lane. All the movies, board games, transistor radios, drive-in theaters, paper manuals at NASA.
The Blob movie made a brief appearance. I watched it when I was 6 or 7 at someone’s house, and it absolutely terrified me!
I also loved that because it was an animated film, Kennedy’s speech about going to the moon was animated, as was The Sound of Music.
I’m So Dizzy was my first favorite song, and I couldn’t get enough of it on my transistor radio.
I'm with your wife on Walk on the Moon. I spent one summer in the Catskills, the year of Woodstock, at the Concord Hotel. This film captured it so well.
It's always a thrill to see Walk on the Moon recommended......whenever people ask me which of the movies I scored are my favorites, this one always makes my top ten...or five. It's such a lovely film, and I've seen all three of the principal actors list it as one of their favorites! Tony Goldwyn did a great job directing, and was fabulous to work with as well. I was lucky to get the gig.
For twenty + years I have recommended Straight Story to others and couldn't agree more with your review of it. Can't beat a cast led by Farnsworth, Spacek, and Harry Dean Stanton (who creates perhaps the greatest double-take in film history).
