I LOVE THE KILLER BUDGIES! That's a set I would roll with in a heartbeat. They're one of the great creations of Miyazaki. I would love to send them to the readers of the Globe who send me hate mail. I love you, Totoro, but sorry buddy, I'm hangn' with the boids. BOY AND THE HERON made my top 20. (My ten best list is in Sunday's paper, online now, as is HERON's review.)

As for POOR THINGS, I got super screwed over by the studio, so I said the hell with it and turned down doing the review. (Life's too short and I hate being treated like some newbie blogger). We'll have a review by someone else at the paper. I'm not a fan of the director nor Marty Feldman's daughter Emma Stone, so I'm not worried that I'm missing much. (just kidding about Feldman, though I always think of that "he has his father's eyes" line from ROSEMARY'S BABY whenever I see her big ass eyes.) I'll just watch it the day before we have to vote.

I'm in Boston today and tomorrow--I'm at the Cambridge Library doing a screening and hawking my book--so you know where to send Burr's Killer Birds (Burrds?) to get me.

I listened to the score from Poor Things - Wow! As soon as the Academy posts it on the website, I'll watch it ( too much traveling and playing these days to go to the actual theater, which I know is a shame. ) Your review of it is quite the come-on.

I loved The Favourite and it looks like I will love Poor Things. Emma Stone is always a joy to watch. Looking forward to it!

Love your review of "Poor Things," Ty. You really had a good time with your language. I finally got to see it last night--it might be my personal favorite of his films. It's certainly the most outlandish and maximalist in style/surrealism. It's hard to know where to begin when praising the film's originality. By the way, isn't the score by Mica Levi?

Fine review of "Poor Things," a movie that I didn't think I liked and came away thinking it was the best of the year.
