Joni Mitchell: I am just a couple years too young to have been a fan when she was rising and I never owned a recording of hers, although I always appreciated her talent. But that Newport performance of "Both Sides Now"? The historical meaning of that setting for her, the context of her recent illness and recovery, the poignancy of her singing that song at the other end of life from which she wrote it, and the love exuding from that stage combined very powerfully. I keep recommending the Nightingale to folks but nobody seems to watch. An amazing flick IMO, That opening scene was so powerful if you know a bit of Irish v Brit history, and then she escapes into the Bush with another indigenous person, whose people were similarly nearly destroyed by: you guessed it, the Brits. And Vengeance started slowly, like it was trying too hard ("Hundred Percent"), but then the mo took over and the ending was satisfying, not to mention, surprising. Kutcher was very good, as were all the actors. Skate Kitchen another great one. Saw Everything, Everywhere... and I walked out and I never walk out. I stayed for 45 minutes maybe. Or maybe it was fabulous as many seem to think, and I guess it went over my head. I'll try it again on the stream. Hear, hear on Joni, there's more stuff on Youtube of the Festival , esp "Suite Judy Blue Eyes" an 8-minute joyous romp. Fin.
