Sometimes a film just reaches out and grabs your ankle. Nyad did this with me. Regardless of criticisms about her personal life, this is a wonderful film about friendship and faith and belief. Gotta say: so far this year my vote goes for this and Flora and Son. So I’m a sap! Saps can be happy too.

Watched Fingernails because my favorite female actor is in it. Thought the premise was crazy until I got into it. Actually the premise is fascinating. Of course Jesse is amazing (I have a crush). Her acting with her face is riveting. I was relieved with the happy ending. I curled up cringing at the fingernail scenes.

Nyad was a hero of mine. What was questionable about her private life?

I am flummoxed by the lack of response to your recent newsletters, which are excellent as usual. All I can do is note that I have seen the same dullness in other excellent, thoughtful Substacks I follow. Maybe we're all really numb right now. Just know that your eclectic range and informed work is appreciated.

Thanks cmorr -- truly appreciate the compliment! (And I think you're right about the numbness, and maybe Substack overload, too.)

The clip with the drill and the libidinous eye contact was freakin' hilarious.
