I can’t express strongly enough my dislike of the ‘Downton Abbey’ franchise-although Julian Fellowes deserves credit for making something that manages at once to be ham-fisted, classist, cloying, and politically offensive-all at the same time. I could go on, but why waste perfectly good mbs on it? On the other hand, 100% on board with Alex Garland-I’ve been a fan since ‘The Beach,’ and he’s only gotten more interesting and intelligent as he’s gone on. I hope he defies himself and decides to keep directing. Man, I’m really on a tear...

This comment is in reference to Ty wondering in this weeks post whether we thought he wrote too much too long et al and I am telling you Ty, the answer to all of those wonderings is NO.

In fact, write more, write longer.

Someone has to combat all of the online articles that now tell you ahead of time how many minutes of your precious life you have to waste reading. (I hear a bunch of librarians got together and tracked the writer who invented that timing intro down and beat him to a pulp with an encyclopedia)

Hey, I've spent my life avoiding watching previews and only give a movie critique a quick sideways glance, so I can't really comment on your reviews until I see the films mentioned. But I will say that I'll watch anything with Jessie Buckley. Liked your "birder column" btw.

Ty, totally agree about my/and my 30something daughter's disappointment when Dan Stevens left the series...however, we continued to watch! Regarding MEN, which I just saw yesterday at the Coolidge...,I chuckled to myself when I realized DOWNTON was playing in the other small venue at the same time! Not until I read your review of MEN just now did I see your same take! Must say I closed my eyes towards the end, and do not completely understand the ending...but as another subscriber said below, I will see anything Jesse Buckley is in...
