I’m currently resisting Air, but such as capitalism’s inexorable force squeezes all the air out of the room, I fear I will succumb.

Growing up on Wagon Train, it was a shock to see Ward Bond as the rapist in Wild Boys. Robert Barrat was great in that film as the judge and in Heroes for Sale as the communist turned capitalist. He was an underappreciated character actor. Interesting that Frank Nugent of the NYT in 1933 found Wild Boys too sentimentalized. These precode films are screen gems😉

Hard to find a venue here in NH in which to see AIR with a crowd anymore. At least the cinemas with reserved seating show online how many seats remain, so we maybe can see it on a Friday or Saturday with 20 others. Will keep monitoring for an opportunity with more...

Oh and pre-eminent scholar of William Wellman, Frank Thompson, has a gorgeous coffee table book out, with every fact he’s ever encountered about versions, spin-offs and fun facts related to Wellman’s BEAU GESTE. Well worth the extra for hardcover: (https://www.amazon.com/Compleat-Beau-Geste-Frank-Thompson/dp/0998769959/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=3B6YK6VLS8K4X&keywords=Frank+Thompson+The+Compleat+Beau+Geste&qid=1681240611&sprefix=frank+thompson+the+compleat+beau+geste%2Caps%2C105&sr=8-1

I can' wait for Showing Up. Maryann Plunkett is a one of my favorite stage actors. I've seen 8 of the 9 RIchard Nelson plays she was in (fear of omicron kept me home from the last one). Kelly Reichardt is a great storyteller. Fifteen years later I still think about the character Wendy from Wendy and Lucy and worry about her.
