It's easier to keep up with you here than when I was catching cheap subscriptions on the Globe and then forgetting to cancel them when they expire. In fact, I get to read more of your reviews here you than I did when you at the Globe, which is a good thing. You and Manohla Dargis are my two go-to reviewers, and I hate it when you guys disagree.

Criterion is great, but I do hope you'll keep an eye on MUBI this year. Both have far too much to watch!

I'm a well-written-essay junkie; critical intelligence informed by common sense and leavened with humor is rare, and the non-movie essays have, so far, moved me, even to action (Roe v Wade). So thank you. I'd happily contribute more.

Way to go Ty. Carry on.

I'm a satisfied subscriber, for many reasons. Among other things, you are a great source of information about overlooked movies. "Peter Ibbetson" is now on my list.

Ty, this has been a positive experience for me. I have enjoyed almost every article. I am listening to your 42 song list on Tidal. In fact, I got Tidal on your recommendation. Would love to see you do more on music and more podcasts. Congratulations

Ty, you are the best, and I don’t regret for one nano second for being a paid subscriber. Keep doing what you’re doing. You give me hope, and I thank you for putting into words my feelings about what’s going on in our country better than I ever could in a million years.

I was a fan when you were at the Globe - I'm a bigger fan now - apparently the loss of an editor was not stifling: just the opposite. I think you should carry on as before - the number and nature of the posts work for me. If anything, your writing is better. Well done, Sir.

Really entertaining, informative and fine writing. I enjoy the diversity of topics and the guidance to ideas and entertainment I may have missed. Onward.

I really enjoy what you're doing now, especially the reviews of what's on the streaming services. I appreciate your sorting through all the movies on Netflix to point out the worthwhile ones. I like your discussions of old movies not just new releases and thought your column on looking for the rare bird (was it a seagull? I forget) was really interesting. I think you can follow your ideas on whatever you find interesting and readers will find your writing well worth reading.

I love what you’re doing and am always eager to read your next post. Always appreciate it when you recommend an older movie. Your Top Gun post remains a favorite. Keep up the fantastic work!

No. Thank YOU Ty. Your Substack is what I’ve needed and wanted as a film junkie. You are so thoughtful in all your essays. Like your parents friends. I’m excited to hear about your webinar about “Mulholland Drive”. While I “liked” it. I haven’t ever watched for a second time. Looking forward to a deepening view. Again. You’re killing it man!

We've been fans of yours since The Best Old Movies for Families book and we're proud that our two kiddoes (now in their mid-20's) are big movie fans. We followed your advice from the book then (and the kids got to see LOTS of the older gems) and we do now. I don't think I would have even tried a bunch of movies if you hadn't mentioned them. I like the frequency and number of posts. (To be fair, I think I'm going to remove myself from the recap one on Friday, since I get the previous one just a little bit before that -- that confused me a bit at first). And a tip of the hat for the "15 Movies My Wife Wants to See This Summer" -- she is a smart cookie. Please tell her from me. :)
