I'd be interested in a discussion about the ethical concerns of taking a groteseque tragedy and transforming it into art. I'm talking about Polley's Women Talking. It is powerful and important. And, the facts of the situation are not as portrayed. The women didn't leave, and although most of the accused rapists are gone, it is not clear that they were the only ones. And, the rapes continue. So tis truly miserable reality in Bolivia continues while we have interesting conversations about their experience years ago. Is there any obligation on the book author's part, on Polley's part, or our part as engaged viewers? The reporting in Vice is accessible, and even covered recently in Time, but it seems to be ignored by the principle creators of the film.
