So what do you think of the accents? I found them jarring in the trailer but I assume once I get caught up in the story I won't notice. My husband & I are Sheila Atim fans having seen her in Phyllida Lloyd's all-female Shakespeare trilogy. She was a charming Ferdinand in The Tempest. The Donmar versions are streaming on BroadwayHD. Alas, the Donmar is no longer streaming her Olivier-winning performance in Constellations.

Nice to be reminded of the TIFF experience, and to learn about upcoming films!

I hope watch from home during the pandemic didn't break the Torontonian habit of making pirate noises during the copyright warnings.

Interesting that "Broker" takes place in Korea (in Korean). Is there a backstory as to why Koreeda moved out of Japan?

I saw The Woman King today. I admit to watching a not insignificant amount through my fingers.A lot of pierced flesh and blood. The performances, though, I LOVED. I enjoyed the wit and wisdom of the warriors; Viola scared the heck out of me. I would love to see her and Lashana Lynch/Thuso Mbedu/Sheila Alim in the awards hunt. I thought John Boyega was excellent also. It was a beautifully shot movie, and I did end up crying at the end (one of my friend was straight on sobbing). We Black women do not always see ourselves on screen as full people, with strength and ferocious energy that is not dependent on romance or enslavement (This film does raise the question of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, but the action takes place in Africa and points to the capitalist and colonialist interventions into tribal conflict. There is a lot of commentary on Black Twitter that made me even more interested in watching this, and I am very glad I did.
