I do love your synopsis' and enthusiasm. I miss seeing the trailers that go along with these movies, but what you write surely pushes me to wanting to see them. I look forward to these little missives from you. Thanks.
Oh wow, Past Lives sounds great! Reading your description I was reminded of Yi Yi, though maybe on a smaller scale. Glad to hear the Holofcener film is great as well. Very excited about that.
It is such a pleasure to read these reviews, even if I never get to see any of the films. But especially I hope to see Past Lives. Partly but not only because of the title I thought of the sad and beautiful Lives of Others, also a study of someone realizing what a very different life his could have been (though he sees it because he is supposed to destroy those living it).
A truly great set of reviews. Agree with the other posters. My personal perspective is that your reviews are always solid. Once in awhile they leave me in awe of your insight and talent. This is one of those pieces!
Here's a book recommendation: If the idea of "Past Lives" and the road not taken appeals to you, check out Paul Auster's lengthy but consistently engaging novel "4-3-2-1" which shows us one character's four possible lives, with provocative similarities and differences. The conceit works to near-perfection; the book is also an evocative look at the time of Auster's college years and the '60s youth rebellion.

Did you see the Kavenaugh film? Reactions, thoughts?
