A fine set of reviews--I don't remember a four out of four star review on this site, which shows how infrequent they are. I'm looking forward to seeing the Little Richard doc.

I know that by nature festival reporting is done under tremendous time constraints, but at some point after the festival you have to fix this horribly mixed metaphor: "for a shooting gallery of Boston accents that don’t color too far outside the lines." Or invent the paintball game that comes with large-scale coloring book pages.

My most recent visit to the cinematic world of Gael Garcia Bernal was the 2019 Chilean movie "Ema". I was introduced to the film in a Top 25 video compilation by David Ehrlich (his work is worth seeking out) thanks to its striking visuals and choreography. While the film overall didn't quite live up to its promise, the dance sequences are powerful and it is one of those movies that sticks in the mind , likely yielding more riches upon a second viewing. And, Bernal is magnetic.

The virtual Sundance from 2 years ago remains one of my most treasured movie memories. A friend and I watched 8 movies over the weekend, including instant classics like "Misha and the Wolves", "Luzzo", and "We're all going to the World's Fair". It was an amazing overdose of movies.

But it has gotten way too expensive for me any more. I think it was $100 to watch as many movies as you could squeeze in but at $25 a crack, it is just too rich for my blood. Maybe some day I'll get back.

Hi Ty - interested to discover what you think about birth/rebirth which opened the Midnight category of Sundance Thursday ? It stars Marin Ireland and Judy Reyes and is directed by Laura Moss. (Full disclosure- I share the same surname as the co-writer/exec producer Brendan O’Brien).

The film that seems to have excited people in the speculative fiction community is Polite Society, albeit based on the trailer, we'll see what the audience and critical response is.

Sad that it doesn't an online option, but looking forward to my online world cinema pass kicking in tomorrow!

Thanks for the coverage!

When Grease was revived (most famously for Rosie O’Donnell in the non-singing role of Rizzo), Billy Porter portrayed Teen Angel (Frankie Avalon in the movie, as a point of reference) as a Little Richard clone. It was, as you’d expect, a highlight of the show.

Thanks! Excited to check out the Little Richard doc, that sounds great! Any plans to watch the new Holofcener film? I didn’t watch her last film but I look forward to a new film by her.
