I was watching the game with my (now ex) wife and she got mad at me for not being all excited as the Sox closed in on WS victory. What is the matter with you, she said. This is all you’ve ever wanted. Something bad could happen, I said. After it was all done and the Mets were celebrating after the ball trickled through the legs, after all that, she turned to me and, in all seriousness, said: I understand you so much better now. Sigh.

I cannot believe I don't already know this movie, but I don't ... and now I do! Guess I've watched Fever Pitch too many times.

I was raised with the National League (yay Dodgers), barely knew anything about the American League, except that the Yankees were to be hated. Not being a loyal Red Sox fan, nor Mets fan (and married to a Yankees fan), I have no memory of this game. But I feel the pain of all you Boston loyalists. And your essay today about this film is fantastic and entertaining in its own right. I just might decide to watch the film!
