I love those 30's horror classics like various Frankenstein and Dracula flicks...partly because the black and white filming looks so splendid. Some little known terrifying movies I know of are:
Robert Altman's Images. Don't know why that one is so obscure
If you have NYC-area readers, they can do what I'm doing and see THE OLD DARK HOUSE on a big screen at the Quad Cinema on Halloween.

Those two actually rattle me, which is almost impossible.
And really have enjoyed An American Werefold in London, and The Howling.
Both had AWFUL sequels.
