I've seen the live action shorts - they are always fantastic. My sense is that many other countries actually fund these shorts, which accounts for the production values - I loved them all this year - Red Suitcase is truly thrilling, Ivalu is exotic as all get out, The Irish are always funny and an Irish Goodbye is no exception, The Pupil will wean you off ever wanting to take the vows, and Late Night Train Ride is a hoot to watch, if a little puerile. I voted a couple of days ago - let's see if this time I agree with a plurality of the other members.

I watched the animated shorts in the theater—usually find those to be the most inventive and engaging. I really, really liked 4 out of 5 (I was very into the Charlie Kaufman vibes of the Ostrich one). But that Boy Mole Fox Horse was the pits. It’s maybe too long to entirely work but I would like to watch it on mute to see how much better it seems. I imagine it makes a huge difference.

I happened to watch My Year of Dicks the other night and enjoyed it quite a bit. I gave it 4 stars, adding the extra 1/2 star for the absolutely killer scene of her exploding in a million different ways during her dad's "sex talk".

This has been such a great evening reading you and watching all these gems and provocations! I can’t believe I want to subscribe to Hulu again just to see what happens in the Year of Dicks, but here I am. “Stranger at the Gate” - wow. I’m glad I didn’t read a thing, just pushed play. And the HAULING OUT??? Mother of God! I would have lost my rag!
