Thanks for this reminder! I'd meant to see the film when it was out--just as I'd meant to read the novel, which has been sitting on my bookshelf since the '80s. I love a good movie with child protagonist(s) inhabited by excellent child actors -- "Cria Cuervos," "Spirit of the Beehive," with the amazing Ana Torrent; "The Florida Project," with the heartbreaking Brooklynn Prince; "Summer 1993," and most recently, the beautiful "Petite Maman." All highly recommended. Look forward to catching up with "Maisie," the movie and the book!

Hi Ty-Even though I see a good hundred movies a year, if not more, for at least the past twenty years, I keep a list at the back of my day book of all the movies I am interested in seeing and then check them off once I've seen them. Clearly there are many still unchecked, but I am ever hopeful that I will eventually get to them. I will add this one to my list and look forward to whatever else you've got. -Best, Ira

Great idea, methinks. I've missed many, there are a lot out there.

BTW, I watched Blue Collar over the weekend. Man, that was a great film, on so many levels. I could talk for hours with anyone who saw it.

I never got to take a film 101 class, but thought many would be interested if you did one in an online format. We'd have to watch the movies on our own per a syllabus from you, and then discuss on Zoom. If it got unwieldy, randomly pick 10-20 students (the "chosen") for each class to engage on camera, each class, while the "hot poloi" (not chosen) lurk. :) I'd pay for it. :)

In a Facebook post recently I recommended Michelle Pfieffer in “Love Field.” (1992) So many jewels out there - many on Kanopy. Thanks for lifting up “Maisie.” Loved that one too!

Thanks for the tip. This is a skilled and moving update of the James novel (though James's ending is more realistic).

You recommend so many movies normally, I decided to create a new Letterboxd list just for this category!

I am excited about this. I just watched Life Itself for the the fourth time. That went under the radar, I think. I always wanted you to write columns on a single actor, naming their five best movies.

Thank you for this new benefit! As others have stated only so many hours available- but during the rain on Saturday I watched “Nine Queens” due to your your prompting- enjoyed it and loved the line about “selling barbed wire seeds”

It was almost unbearable to watch this film! I shudder to think of what happens after the credits. Again I think of The Quiet Girl.

You make me want to be a better film-watcher. Thanks Ty!

Thanks, Ty, for another inspiring movie suggestion. My wife and I watched it yesterday, and what a wonderful film, indeed, with a remarkable performance by that young actress.

I was reminded (whether intentionally by the writers, or not) of the plot and a name from a famous Dr. Seuss book, “Horton Hatches the Egg,” a story that I read to both kindergartners when I worked with that age group a long time ago, and my own sons….also, a while ago. In the story, as many know, the mother, named Mayzie is a bird, who abandons her baby/egg, only to see it hatched by (and take on physical characteristics of) Horton the Elephant, who sat and sat and eventually hatched it.
