I have not seen the movie yet but the theme, as you described, resembles the attitude of the movie studio executives towards the striking writers and actors. They don't care about the people who work to keep them in business, and they probably never cared.

Great recommendation, Ty. Terrific film. Most if not all of the Dardennes brothers films stick with you as powerful portrayals of people struggling with life in a modern industrial city, in this case the Belgian city of Liege. The Dardennes two of my favorite filmmakers. And Marion Cotillard is a treasure. (She becomes Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose, a role that got her an Oscar for best actress, the first for a French-speaking role).

I remember this film so well - MC did an amazing job in her roll - not as a beautiful woman, but as an ordinary woman trying to wrangle some equilibrium out of a skewed life. I found it charming and profoundly moving.

Speaking of excellent under-the-radar films, I discovered Outside In with Edie Falco. I am always looking for such movies: made $67,000 at the box office, which proves a point.

Saw this in the theater when it came out. So, so good. I generally like but not love the Dardennes brothers films. And I think contrary to what one might expect, having an actor of Cotillard’s caliber (and her incredible screen presence) really helps the film and turns it into something almost iconic.
