Ty, I'm with your wife. I watched for ten minutes. The, in utter disgust, I sat in silence until "All Creatures Great and Small" on PBS reminded me that there might be good people in the world.
As we glide into the Academy nom's, I am just beginning to get a bead on my favorites......I recently realized that this was indeed a terrific year for features.....I have multiple favorites for all acting categories - most unusual! You have made me add a couple of viewings - many thanks!
I used to sit through all awards show diligently, but this year I only tuned in to this one at the very end, just in time to see Lily Gladstone's acceptance speech. Perfect timing.
Ty--completely unrelated to this post (sorry but didn’t find your email address) but the NYT Watching alert I received today noted that Northern Exposure is finally on streaming! “Northern Exposure,” one of a few white whales of the streaming era, has been harpooned at last, and its 110 episodes are finally available on Amazon.”
While I will watch many of the movies that are nominated, I just can’t watch these Hollywood awards shows any more. As a conservative, I don’t feel the need to be unduly insulted.
By the way Ty, great article in the Washington Post on Newman, Redford and The Sting.
Thank you very much for the explanation and I apologize for the confusion. “It all makes sense now,” as they might say after the caper in a film noir is unraveled.
I read the piece in the Atlantic and find it disturbing and worthy of further exploration. To paraphrase Pauline Kael, I have never met an actual white supremicist, despite a full life in the military, the law and politics. And while I believe the problem is sometimes exploited for partisan politics, any hatred and bigotry should never be tolerated in a society that seeks to be colorblind. Speaking of that, happy MLK day!

Hi Ty, Please let me know if you find a platform without Nazis. I’m cancelling Substack.
Ty,
Thank you very much for the explanation and I apologize for the confusion. “It all makes sense now,” as they might say after the caper in a film noir is unraveled.
