Loved this column. Having canvassed twice in the past, please thank your daughter for me.

As the parent of two children who never answer their phones, I agree with your assessment of our youth. I love their courage and take hope from them.

I hope you are correct about Trumpty-Dumpty, who will likely self-implode anyway, but Ron DeSantis could prove to be even more dangerous because he's mostly sane. Still, it will be fun to see Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy, and DeSantis struggle with the Trump minions over the next two years.

Here in advance of all the subscribers who whine, "I didn't come here for politics! Stay in your lane!" You're entitled to speak your mind on this subject, especially when it's at the forefront of everything right now, and I appreciate hearing your take.

I wonder how the pollsters get their info when NO-ONE answers those spam calls. I am hopeful the younger generation has the stamina to put up the long fight towards regaining some sort of democrazy - because it IS crazy these days.

Thanks for your insight (although I am missing your movie review, I absolutely appreciate this).

I share your sentiment about the election and feel relieved and more optimistic, knowing young people like your daughter, are taking actions and undaunted by the tough tasks ahead. Ukrainians are giving their lives, trying to save their democracy and freedom, we have no excuse sitting idle by and letting the conspiracy-driven, authoritarian-inclined folks take over our government. However, the task is not done.

Well said, well said!!

I'm pushing 84, I'm a pessimist, I don't listen to polls, I don't own a cellphone, I stay on top of the news [without TV], and I use the knowledge that I've gained in all my years to decide what is the correct way.

The Democrats would have done better if they had played up what they have accomplished in the past two years... but that's what the Democrats do. Al Maze

I LOVED this. I approached the midterms in the same exact way, by filtering twitter and keeping a small blue flame alive. I will look for you on Mastodon.

🤞🤞🤞for Georgia! Thank you Pennsylvania and Michigan. Hoping for some sanity to return to Ohio and Wisconsin by 2024. Florida what a shame, I blame it on the hanging chads.

Thanks for the upbeat thinking…much better than my downbeat thoughts.

This is yet another reason I subscribe to your columns, Ty.......perhaps my favorite editorial on this subject yet......I also think the stock market recognized the end of this spiteful era today......I take Ron DeSantis very seriously, but at least he has a brain, if not a heart and soul. Onward.

I too had a quiet unspoken feeling that "common sense" would rule the day....and yes that Kansas referendum was the "canary in the coal mine" which gave me a hope.

There are so many words you have written in both of your books and since you became a Globe critic that I treasure. I love your writing, but you have never written a sentence more than I love this one. "The beginning of the end of the Trump Era may at last be in sight."
