This review was crucial. How many people will not see the movie because they think it’s pap? Also, how long have you been waiting to write “Barbiesattva”?
I saw Barbie last night, and was just as you describe. I much enjoyed it though I was kind of wishing it would have came to an end about ten minutes sooner (though the last line was great). And you're right about the audience:a good number or people of my advanced age, but very many young girls, frequently sporting Barbie colors: I was in line to buy tickets behind three 14 year old (?) girls wearing matching black shorts and pink tops.
Also, was it you who suggested third Finger, Right Hand? I'm about halfway through that and it is most amusing.
Hey there- thanks for your insightful and spot on review (even for a male!). Love you Ty. Saw Barbie today with my four other 69 and 70 year old buddies. Yes, we wore pink and looked ridiculous. Yay! We were surrounded by 12-15 year olds which was fun and cool but we couldn’t help thinking we were appreciating this movie and it’s message on an entirely different level. I never thought I could be brought to tears from a movie about Barbie.
Saw it on the big screen over the weekend and it was a blast! I esp. liked the narrator's (Helen Mirren) aside to movie producers about the wisdom of casting Margot Robbie!
So good. Thanks.
This review and charlotte clymer’s make me so want to see this. I should never have doubted Greta Gerwig.
This one is a keeper - your writing is just so, so good. I got chills at the end (again, from the writing!). I’m a big fan.
I am really looking forward to seeing this, and your review makes it sound like what I hope it is.

Longer than I expected!
How great would it be to hear Steely Dan sing ‘Barbiesatva’ over the end credits?

Just reread this after seeing the movie. Rob Brydon played Sugar Daddy Ken (Sugar was the name of the West Highland White Terrier which came with the doll). The doll was made in 2009. Tom Stourton played Earring Magic Ken.
