This is not a comment but I feel the need to write this. Leaving Criterion at the end of this month are the stop-action short films of Niki Lindroth von Bahr, who is a sort of comedy/horror-film mirror image of Nick Parks. My favorite by far is Something to Remember, an apocalyptic five minutes consisting of five grim renditions of a Scandinavian lullaby, each grimmer than the last, all sung by creatures straight out of Gary Larson’s Far Side. I must have watched it 50 times and I still find it funny and horrifying at once. I recommend it to anyone who has 5 spare minutes (ok, 5 minutes and 36 seconds) of free time before midnight 8/31. Maybe it won’t hit anyone else the way it’s hit me, but the investment is small.
