Great piece, Ty, about a terrific movie. Best, though, is the headline. So many layers to that reference! But it should come with an ear-worm alert for Astaire fans; I'm now going to be humming the tune all day.

My wife and I really enjoyed the movie which was based loosely on true events. At least there was the discovery of an old buried Viking ship and the characters were for the most part real people.Strongly recommend and a Fine Romance isn't too bad either!....Thanks also for tribute to Don Everly and the Everly brothers....those are the tunes rolling around in my head today!

Loved it when it first became available - no ramp enhanced flying car crashes or ridiculous superpowers, just a heart warming little film. In the same friendship genre more or less I would recommend First Cow, and The Straight Story.

Thank you for this review - my favorite postings are when you encourage your readers to look into a film that might otherwise have gone overlooked. (Because of your article about Coda, I am looking forward to watching that next!) My wife and I enjoyed The Dig very much, and agree with what you wrote here.

I appreciated what you said about how friendship is often an underserved subject for storytelling, as conflict is often more exciting. (As Tolkien says in The Fellowship of the Rings (extreme paraphrasing), The scary and dark times make for great storytelling, but happy, peaceful times aren't that much fun to read, so Bilbo's and Sam's weeks with the elves passed without much mention.)

On a similar note to archeology and friendship, I'd like to strongly recommend a lovely British series (on Amazon Prime) called Detectorists. It is a sweet and funny story of a friendship between two people (and eventually more) who spend their weekends using metal detectors. This show takes the daring path of finding dignity in characters that most other shows would make fun of - it is a smartly told story about gentle people - and it has Diana Rigg in it, so double bonus points!

Really enjoying your articles - the historical ones, the tributes, all of them. I'm very glad I signed up!

Haha - this line! "No sex, though, and not just because they’re British." Great write-up.

Brilliant! This film rekindled my love for Fiennes. Hope we see more of him in films as equally nuanced and lovely.
